At the beginning of the 19th century, European powers were in a race to explore the corners of the planet that had not yet been colonized. England, Spain and France financed explorations across the globe. One of the leading regions of this race is the West Coast of Canada. Although the region was officially claimed by the English at the head of George Vancouver, evidence shows that before his arrival, many explorers in the service of the Spanish Crown visited much of this region.
